zimshan | PUBLIC LJ UPDATE: Going FRIENDS ONLY at the moment

Going FRIENDS ONLY for all posts at the moment, until I can get the time to go through and selectively publicize the larger posts. I've actually been meaning to do this all summer, but the new cross-posting feature just reminded me it needs to be done.

I actually have no problem with links to big posts that I've worked hard on, care about, and believe in the content of. It's those random posts from the last five years I'd rather not have RL people be able to track down. Much of this journal consists of 'blowing steam' posts and the idea of it ever being held against me...well, I'm kind of a little bit paranoid about.

I'll be re-opening score posts, vids, meta, and recs shortly, but most if not all of regular ep and fandom posts will be friends only from now on. If I've yet to friend you and you're a lurker that's enjoyed reading this journal, please comment here. Otherwise, signing out!

For those who hate looking at the stupid ticky boxes on the comments, HERE is an easy code to get rid of it. (For you at least. No one's come up with a way to disable it for all people looking at your journal.) Then go and TAKE THIS POLL to tell LJ what you think about this new feature.

As for my flist, I hope you guys all know that I respect your privacy and will never crosspost anything without your permission (ESPECIALLY FACEBOOK, OMG). As such, I expect the same courtesy in return. I'm trusting that you guys are smart and awesome and will do the right thing. Please make me proud!

And hopefully LJ will take care of this fail promptly.

You are uber brave! I've been contemplating going friends only permanently for a while now and just the thought of having to go back and undoing all my fic posts keeps giving me nightmares. Now that there's this stupid reposting feature, I'm heavily leaning on locking everything down, though. :/

HA! Well, you DEFINITELY have more fic posts to go through than I have score/vid/meta posts! But it is half of why I did the source post of links a couple months ago, makes it easier to find them all. ;)

Now going back through all the rest? That's definitely not something I'm looking forward to. I'm just sitting here thinking where did I accumulate so many POSTS!

If you do the CSS I mentioned (.b-repost-item, #fblo {display: none;}), I think it gets rid of it on your journal when people view your comment pages in your style, not their own. (Unless of course, they've done the CSS hack themselves.)

Hmm, see none of the CSS codes that have been coming out work for me. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but the ticky boxes are still there and everything. Idk. *shakes fist at LJ*

Dude, pingbacks are stupid. I just enabled it to see what it'd do, and I had NO CLUE it would do BACK posts. That's just RIDICULOUS. I'm turning them back off again. Sorry for the annoying email notices!

I like the concept of pingbacks when they work properly. I do want to know when people are linking me. But they're, uh, not working properly at the moment. Hope that gets fixed.

I get why they are doing it...they want to mainstream their site as much as possible and jump on the bandwagons, but I love LJ because it gives me an outlet outside of FB and Twitter, outside of my real life.

Hmm. Don't think I want to go friends only. (Although, why not? Not like I have picked up a new reader in years...) But maybe it is time for a journal name change. Something a little less obvious to people who know me :)

THIS. Exactly. And yea, I understand why LJ wants to do it, but for a majority of fandom people it's definitely not ideal. :(

OH SHOOT! THE SOUNDTRACK CAME OUT TODAY! *facepalm* RL's been nuts! Anyway, I'll have to download it tomorrow and let you know! But I wouldn't be surprised if he tied it in somehow to Americana. Does it sound like the same common instrumentation or is it with the Americana sound? That would be a little weird. Anyway, I'll take a look! Thanks for the reminder!

Just listened! Not crazy at all, most definitely the Dean theme! YAYYY!!!!! That whole piece is a really pretty track!

Now, here's a question for you. Can you figure out why on earth Amazon doesn't have reviews enabled for the soundtrack? I want people to write them, but I can't seem to find an option!

BTW I forgot, would you mind adding me to your friends, I love reading your posts about Supernatural, score and other matters and I would love to do in the future.
I swear I would never cross-post anything to facebook or twitter. I hate facebook and there is a reason why I don't have a facebook account.
I don't post stuff very often on my lj but I love to comment and read.
