SPN - 4.22 - Just finished watching...

Well. FUCK.

So that happened then.

I don't even know. Almost everything happened that I figured would.

Heaven and Hell both duped Dean and Sam.

4.21 was the rock-bottom of Dean and Sam.

Dean wasn't wanted to stop Lilith.

Killing Lilith would break the last seal.

But it ended, and I'm still going, wait, what? That's it? Really? Are you kidding me, Kripke? I guess I just thought he'd be more ruthless.

Because I spent the whole time FLIPPING OUT IN MORE EPIC PROPORTIONS THAN EVER BEFORE over every single little step that looked like Lucifer was gonna rise in Sam (DUDE, ST. MARY'S IN ILCHESTER, MARYLAND? I thought FOR SURE that could only mean one thing!). AND SAM. SAMMY. HE WAS ABSOLUTELY KILLING ME SIDEWAYS AND BACKWARDS! And he almost BACKED OUT, until he got that FAKE!DEAN message AND THEN MY HEART SHRIVELED UP AND DIED. I sweared hatred over Kripke while watching this so many time, I lost count, and I've NEVER hated Kripke before, but I just was so sure he was gonna fuck us for good.

But then we got all that false hope with Dean getting Cas to help him (PICTURE THE AMOUNT OF FLIPPAGE THAT WENT ON WITH THAT?!), and Dean reaching Sam but then locked out but then SAM HEARS HIM! And he STOPS! Until Lilith makes him mad and gets him to continue and then SAM'S EYES WENT BLACK, AND I THINK I SAT IN THE CORNER EATING MY HAIR FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES WHICH MIGHT BE CERTIFIABLE FOR INSANITY until I had the guts to watch the rest.

To which, I found out, Sam's eyes peeled back again and SAMMYYYYY!!! YOU'RE OKAY!!!!! THE AMOUNT OF TEARS OF JOY OVER THAT WERE IMMEASURABLE. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO GLAD TO BE RIGHT ABOUT SOMETHING IN ALL MY YEARS OF TV, I SWEAR TO GOD.

And then POSSIBLY THE BEST. THING. EVER. as Dean runs in (GREAT TIMING KNOCKING DOWN THAT DOOR TWO MINUTES LATE!) and Ruby says "You're too late" and Dean goes "I don't care" and Sam comes from behind to grab her as Dean guts her with her knife. AND THEY DON'T MISS A BEAT. And I know, I get how misogynist the moment was visually, but I'm sorry, in this case I am making an exception here because AS A VIEWER, I SO FUCKIN NEEDED THAT. After that emotionally draining episode, I NEEDED SOME GRATIFICATION AND THAT HIT THE SPOT SO WELL, seeing them work as a team again, and kill the fucker who'd been playing them for so long. SUCH SATISFACTION. I REPEAT, they didn't MISS A BEAT. *sigh* I knew they'd be alright. :)

And that's despite the fact that I LOVED Ruby proving to be running her long con all this time. The moment I had the thought that Sam killing Lilith must be the last seal, it clicked together so well because of where it so awesomely placed Ruby. I wanted her to have her own agency, instead of just being Sam's troddy puppy and this gave it to her so well.

But really, I'm just mostly glad the boys are okay with each other again. I don't know why I ever would have doubted, but it's nice to know. As we go out for the summer. I still can't believe Kripke was this gracious to us though. It's kinda still surreal.

BUT THAT LAST FIVE SECONDS. GUYS. HELP ME OUT. WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS TO THAT? Dean telling Sam, let's get out of here, and Sam STOPPING HIM, AND LOOKING KINDA CREEPILY INCREDULOUS with a vaguely sanctimonious phrase of "He's coming" before the screen whited out? DID THAT DEMON BLOOD DOOOO SOMETHING TO SAM AFTER ALLL? AM I STILL BEING CRAZY???? PLEASE TELL ME I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY OVER THIS!!!

It is pretty much a given that Sam's gonna have to assume a long con with Lucifer a la Ruby in order to help Dean kill him though, right? No way Lucifer isn't gonna want to find and praise the guy who rose him.

And am I the only one still asking, WHY DID GOD LEAVE THE BUILDING?!?

There was so many more parts I feel like I need to mention (like OMG, BOBBY YELLING AT DEAN, HOLY CRAP YES), but at this point, DAMN, the way Kripke was jerking my chain was emotionally EXHAUSTING. I feel like I need to sleep for a month now.

I'm guessing they decided not to include God to avoid the wrath of organized religion.

I don't think we can know yet what they are going to do and they left it vague on purpose. Who knows what is up Kripke's sleeves but Lucifer has to be more than Azrael and more than Lilith. To me, Lilith was never more terrifying than in Jus in Bello. That episode made her terrifying. Having her become a random woman and not a scary little girl took away alot of her mojo for me. Nowhere near the impact.

So Lucifer? Either possessing Sam or another meatsuit has to have more terror and more presence and just so much more than anything we've seen so far or it will be an immense letdown.

Either way, it certainly accomplished the purpose of setting up what could be a kickass final season.

BUT!!! Ugh, I don't want it to just be an excuse. I want a REASON. SOMETHING. God's being held captive or SOMETHING. They've delved WAY too far in religion and Christianity to check out and play chicken now!

HENCE a summer of DREAD. Oh man. But yea, good thing about the ratching, they've gotta top all the other demons SOMEHOW. I just...ugh. Everything points to Sam being possessed by him still, right up to Dean's destiny intending to kill Lucifer. THE DREAD, THE DREADDDDDDD.

But yea, NEXT SEASON? OH MAN.

How mad would you be at Kripke if he put the boys back together just to avoid us all complaining over the summer, and then in the premiere has Lucifer possess Sama nd the boys driven apart again? LOL! Kripke needs a body guard!

I almost completely believe he'd do it. Except that Lucifer vs. Dean has got to be a season long thing, and I have no idea how Kripke would actually be insane enough to think he could swing having real Sam gone all year. But I can totally see him flipping Sam in the opener in a "the demon blood did something to him" way. That last line Padalecki delivered there with such awe-struck reverence gives me the creeps.

The little girl worked in the beginning, but not only did the show over use the creepy little girl thing, but you can't actually have Sam kill a little girl. Just like with the anointed one on Buffy, the creepy child has a time limit and it isn't very long before people get annoyed that grown ups can't take care of a small child.

And, I'm wondering whether God has left the building because he is a hands off kind of being in this universe and the Angels are the time keepers of the great clockwork set in motion, or if he is merely a legend to keep people in line... with only 4 Angels ever having been in his presence (and Uriel now dead) it could be a big con job. :P

Not that they would get JDM back from his movie work, but Lucifer taking the shape of John would bring the show full circle.

I realize they couldn't use a little girl for the reasons you stated but I did not find this woman scary at all. Perhaps if she had been better cast, I don't know.

You are right, they cast her very badly! The casting department is hit and miss when it comes to the women. They cast young Mary perfectly, and then dropped the ball on this girl, they cast Anna well and didn't quite get there with the new Ruby. Flip a coin. Thankfully, they do cast men well, so if Lucifer does actually take the body of a man then we should get someone awesome.

I feel like the past two episodes have been lighter on misogyny than usual. I was really impressed with how things panned out. I liked that the higher ups on the "good" side turned out to be just as underhanded and bureaucratic as I'd assume the higher ups on the "bad" side are. I thought it was a nice touch to have the forces of "good" so unconcerned with the lives of mere mortals. I think this season has taught me, above all else, that capitalism is evil lol.

This is a bit of a stab in the dark as i have searched and searched and not been able to find it myself and so far you look like my best hope at finding this piece of music and knowing whether it is actually a score or not. At the beginning of the episode 'Croatoan' as they are driving into Crater Lake,there is a piece of music playing that i absolutely love and it isn't any of the scores that i was able to download from your links....any help on this would be hugely appreciated :D it is also played in a couple other episodes that i have noticed.
